PHIL 307 - Chinese Buddhism: Philosophy and Practice An investigation into the practice of Chinese Buddhism as it takes place at a traditional Chinese Buddhist monastery. The program will specifically explore the history of central Buddhist tenets and look at ways in which they are realized within a living Buddhist monastic community. This program will also afford students the opportunity to engage with and participate in some of the aspects of Chinese Buddhist monastic life. The program will accomplish these goals through lectures and discussions on Buddhist philosophy, religious practice, material culture, and religious texts as well as structured discussions with Buddhist monks and nuns and active involvement with the monastic community and its culture.
