We will look at European and American propaganda campaigns of the 20thcentury and the design work that resulted from the Works Progress Administration as well as at more contemporary examples of socially and politically relevant design. Students will then use experimental typography techniques to create their own posters with the aim of informing an audience. This class will combine the use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator with a good deal of analogue image-generating techniques including photography, printmaking and drawing.
