AFBL 290-02 (Fall) - African Diaspora Peoples

This course will explore Africa’s relations with the West, beginning with the early modern period. We will evaluate the onset of European colonialism on Africa and the continent’s resistance to European encroachments. While we will review the impact of the Atlantic slave trade on African societies, our primary focus will be on African peoples’ struggles to liberate themselves from European economic systems and ideologies in the African continent and the Americas.
