REL 311 - Gospel Literature This course explores the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth in early Christian canonical and non-canonical gospels. Examines significant religious, socio-cultural, and political issues that shaped early Christian communities, beliefs, and texts. Topics include gospel as a literary and religious genre; theories and methods of textual interpretation; the canonization of sacred texts; men’s and women’s religious leadership; and competing understandings of the divine, salvation, and religious life and practice.
