DATA 370 - Machine Learning The following question often arises: how can computers learn to do things without being explicitly programmed? Moreover, how can machines learn to do things like recognize faces or objects of interest? Or, how can a self-driving car learn to lane change in a dynamic environment? With recent advances, these problems and many more have been successfully solved and interest in machine learning has skyrocketed. For example, Netflix offered a $1 million dollar prize for a movie recommender system and Google’s DeepMind AI used machine learning to beat the world’s best Go player. In this semester long introduction to machine learning, you will learn the technologies behind these applications and many more. Topics include unsupervised and supervised learning, data clustering, principle component analysis, logistic regression, support vector machines, neural networks, and deep learning.
