INTD 260 - American Intellectual and Cultural History I This course examines the early colonial forms of religious and political idealism from the Enlightenment revolutionary rationalism and its reactions (including rural and frontier revivalism), to the increasing American regionalism and the role of slavery in the formation of American ideas through the Civil War. Analyzes the shaping significance of African-American spirituals or “sorrow songs.”
