ENGL 364 - Modern American and International Poetry Poets of the modernist era in America (such as Gertrude Stein, Langston Hughes, T.S. Eliot, and Marianne Moore). Includes some contemporaneous international poets (such as Yeats, Borges, Lorca, and Cavafy) and American precursors (such as Dickinson and Whitman). In addition to covering major modernist movements and modernism as a whole, the class spends significant time on poetry and identity, from sexual and ethnic identity to national identity, how those identities are constructed, and how they fit into and are informed by social and political and historical change in the modern era.
Pre-req: ENGL 110 , ENGL 120 , ENGL 220 , or ENGL 221 3 credits
