Engineering 3-2 Core Courses

In addition to satisfying the Whittier College Liberal Education requirements, all 3-2 students must complete the following 34 credits in science and mathematics with grades of “C” or better in each course and a 3.0 GPA:

PHYS 150 - Calculus-Based Physics I (Mechanics) 4 credits
PHYS 180 - Calculus-Based Physics II (Electricity, Magnetism and Thermodynamics) 5 credits
PHYS 250 - Computational Oscillations & Waves 3 credits
CHEM 110A - General Chemistry I 4 credits
MATH 139A - Integrated Precalculus & Calculus 4 credits and
MATH 139B - Integrated Precalculus and Calculus 3 credits
or
MATH 141A - Calculus & Analytical Geometry I 4 credits
MATH 141B - Calculus & Analytical Geometry II 4 credits
MATH 241 - Calculus & Analytical Geometry III 4 credits
MATH 345A - Differential Equations I 3 credits
COSC 120 - Computer Science I 3 credits

Note:

While not required in the core, for many engineering specialties it is advisable to take the second semester of General Chemistry, CHEM 110B , 4 credits.

Requirements

3-2 students wishing to receive a B.A. in Chemistry in combination with an engineering degree must complete, in addition to the core courses, the following 24 credits in chemistry.

CHEM 110B - General Chemistry II 4 credits
CHEM 231A - Organic Chemistry I 3 credits
CHEM 231B - Organic Chemistry II 3 credits
CHEM 233A - Organic Chemistry Laboratory 1 credits
CHEM 233B - Organic Chemistry II Lab 1 credits
CHEM 220A - Quantitative Analysis Theory 2 credits
CHEM 220B - Quantitative Analysis Lab 3 credits

The following courses must be taken either at Whittier College or the engineering school:

CHEM 321A - Physical Chemistry I 4 credits
One upper division chemistry course approved by the Chemistry Department 3 credits
