Art History & Visual Culture Track, B.A.

30 credits minimum

Requirements

A minimum of nine Art History & Visual Culture courses (27 credits) must be taken. 15 credits are required from the list of intermediate courses. ART 393 is required as an advanced course. One studio art elective of the student’s choice completes the track.

In addition, each student must complete and publicly present a senior project.

All courses are 3 credits unless otherwise indicated.

Introductory Courses

Take at least three of these courses:

ART 122 - Art of the Americas 3 credits
ART 180 - Narrative, Creative Storytelling, and Brown Identities in the US 3 credits
ART 206 - Western Art: 15th through 20th Centuries 3 credits
ART 208 - Introduction to Visual Culture/Media 3 credits
ART 209 - History of Photography 3 credits

Intermediate Courses

Take at least five of these courses:

ART 212 - Gender Studies in Photography, Art, and Visual Culture 3 credits
ART 225 - Art and Politics 3 credits
ART 370 - Contemporary Art 3 credits
ART 371 - U.S. Latinx Art & Visual Culture 3 credits
ART 372 - Media Theory 3 credits
ART 381 - Art of Mexico 3 credits

Advanced Course

Required:

ART 393 - Art in the Public Sphere 3 credits
Must be taken within the junior or senior year.

Studio Art Requirement

One studio art course.

Recommended but not required:

Study abroad
Foreign language study
A double major or an interdisciplinary minor, such as Gender Studies or Environmental Studies
