ENVS 355 - Plant Biology Of all of the species on our planet, roughly 20% of them are plants. The importance of plants cannot be exaggerated, as they are the basis for nearly all food webs on our planet and vitally provide oxygen to all animal species. In addition, plants provide humans with a vast array of ecosystem services, from textiles, medicines, timber, dyes, and fragrances. This course will focus on a broad range of topics within the field of botany, including plant evolution and taxonomy, morphology, physiology, interactions with other organisms, and the connections between plants and people. While the focus of this class will be on land plants, we will briefly touch on aquatic botany as well.
